Al Adhaan

A sung performative work that stands out as an evolution of and response to the Performance and Installation Thousand Prayers. Marwan Hemma sang Al Adhaan in front of one thousand six people in Lausanne, Siviriez and Bulle. His body is marked by the appropriation of the song's material. His presence and voice convey the call to pray, following the traditional scansion and improvising his own melody from the note G.

"By singing the call to prayer, I express my attachment to Islam. My approach is to include the sound and architectural reality of the Algerian landscape (among others) where I come from."
